House Husbands–Season 3, Episode 6
I’ve been stating that the majority of the episodes in this season have been hits and misses, this one certainly wasn’t.
I knew that Lewis and Belle wouldn’t find Ned, it’s too early in the season for them to be reuniting and it was too easy. Instead, for a twist we meet Ned’s girlfriend and discover he has a son and therefore Lewis and Belle have a grandson. I felt that this was a good choice by the writers as it allows for character development in Ned, it introduces new characters and it wasn’t cliched.
I quite enjoyed the Poppy subplot as it was realistic. It showed that as good as kids can be and as much as parents would like to control their children and keep them safe, at the end of the day, you can’t control them forever and sometimes they meet a bad friend. Although I don’t condone Poppy’s behaviour, it was nice to see her with a bit of sass and something different other than being another cute kid. I liked the writers’ choice to have this as part of the fall out of the Epipen incident. However I would have liked to found out more about her “friend”, Sylvie, even though she was unlikeable. If you’re going to invest in a new character and have this be the b-story, I think more effort should be made. It was a nice twist to have Poppy steal Looby’s wallet and be suspended.
The ending of this episode emphasises my point that this season of House Husbands has turned the show into a soap opera. I never sensed any sexual tension between Lewis and Belle, especially since Belle’s kiss in the last episode was forced. I felt that them wanting to sleep together came completely out of nowhere and was partly to make the heart attack plausible.
Overall this is an improvement on some of the previous episodes and had decent plots, however the ending was too melodramatic for me.
